Bekker takes 1-shot lead in South Africa

MALELANE, South Africa (AP) Oliver Bekker put together a run of four straight birdies to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship on Thursday.

Bekker made birdies on Nos. 11-14 - he started his round on No. 10 - for a 6-under 66 at Leopard Creek Country Club in his native South Africa to overtake clubhouse leader Dimitrios Papadatos, who led for much of the afternoon after his 67 took him to 5 under.

Raphael Jacquelin was third at 4 under and nine players, including defending champion Brandon Stone, were another shot further back.

Oosthuizen wins 1st South African title

JOHANNESBURG (AP) Louis Oosthuizen won his first title at the South African Open on Sunday, running away from his challengers with a final-round 67 for a six-shot victory.

Oosthuizen led from the front on the final day at Randpark Golf Course and although his three-shot overnight lead was cut to one after three holes, he surged back for a ninth European Tour win and first in nearly three years. The South African finished on 18-under 266. Read More...

Kizzire and Harman win QBE Shootout

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) Patton Kizzire and Brian Harman won the QBE Shootout on Sunday, eagling the par-5 17th and closing with a par for a one-stroke victory over Graeme McDowell and Emiliano Grillo.

Kizzire and Harman shot an 11-under 61 in the better-ball final round to finish at 30 under at Tiburon Golf Club. They opened with a 59 in the first-round scramble and had a 66 on Saturday in modified alternate shot. Read More...

Woods discusses pre-Presidents Cup sched

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) U.S. captain Tiger Woods will have discussions with golf officials in Melbourne on how to best prepare his team for the 2019 Presidents Cup next December at Royal Melbourne.

Woods, in Melbourne for a promotional visit, said the talks later Thursday would focus on the options of the Americans playing his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, coming to Melbourne the week prior for practice with sand-belt techniques, or playing the Australian Open as the lead-up event at The Australian in Sydney. Read More...

PGA of America to move HQ to Texas

FRISCO, Texas (AP) The PGA of America is leaving Florida for a $520 million development in the Dallas area that will include a 500-room hotel, a massive conference center and two golf courses that will bring major championships back to Texas.

The decision Tuesday followed approval of an incentives package by the Frisco City Council and other government entities. The move is not expected until the summer of 2022, about the time the two golf courses, a 9-hole short course and practice areas are to be finished. Read More...
