The contract was expected to be worth $1.5 million, plus performance bonuses. The sides were close to finalizing the deal Friday. Analysis: The 31-year-old Ogando went 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA in 27 relief appearances for Texas last season. He missed much of the year because of an injured right elbow. Ogando made his major league debut in 2010 with Texas and was an AL All-Star the next season. He pitched five years for Texas, alternating seasons as a starter and a reliever.

Analysis: Ogando missed the final four months last season with right elbow inflammation. Despite good reports about his health since the end of the season, Ogando decided against pitching in winter ball. Daniels didn't rule out a return for Ogando, who made $2,625,000 this year and wanted to experience free agency if Texas didn't allow him to be eligible for arbitration.
